the history

The island of Antillia represents a unique position in the cultural history of human exploration. It was a legendary outpost of the known world, a reality made transcendent by legend.

The story begins as the Dark Age descends upon western Europe, as the remaining outposts of Rome’s empire crumble. As the Moors’ conquest of the Iberian peninsula sweeps through its various kingdoms, legend reputes that the Archbishop of Porto and six bishops set out with their townfolk and supporting supplies for one of the Fortunate Isles in the Western Ocean. Upon arriving on Antillia, each bishop founded a city, establishing a co-operative haven of culture and agricultural harmony.

Once Europe embarked in earnest on its Age of Discovery, the heritage of the island was hotly contested, and its location- halfway between Europe and Japan- was of immense strategic and empirical importance. When the local cloak of the Dark Age lifted and a European Spain was reclaimed, Ferdinand and Isabella sponsored Columbus’s voyage of 1492, confident that the rich cultural preserve of Antillia would help them establish their New World.

the practice

The Antillia Collective is a design-led group of architects, urbanists and designers sharing experience and skills across the spectrum of the built environment, based in the UK, and largely in Scotland. Each of us is firmly rooted in our local heritage- so our structure allows us to tackle diverse projects with sound local knowledge, whilst retaining the flexibility to respond to shifts in the national economic landscape.

With substantial experience and a comprehensive portfolio of built work between us, we set out to provide a personal, intimate collaboration to deliver a project tailored exclusively to your needs.

This spirit of co-operation yields a flexible, open and personal service, and our versatility and robust perspective enable us to offer a depth of service that our competitors often cannot. In an age where the commercial prerogative has stripped the culture and personality from much of the architectural spectrum, our aim is to bring enrichment and nourishment once again.
